About Swaranjali

Swaranjali is formed by a group of artist and singers, to educate youngsters in music

In today’s world advice, education & mentoring is part of life in every field. However, this concept not new to the music world. Especially the traditional classic music of India is based on Gurukul. Gurukul denotes not only the mere teaching but also mentoring & coaching. Only a Guru can provide mentoring & coaching to disciples. For the disciples Guru is a guardian much more than just a teacher. In India they say ‘’ Guru bin kaun batave bata!’’ as a guardian the Guru takes care of disciples without any self expectations just like mother. After receiving so much knowledge from the Guru which helps disciples to build his/her career, it is perhaps a time for the disciple to do something for him however by doing this the disciple would not absolve from basis and throughout his life.

I studied music under the guidance of late pt. Jitendra Abhisheki. He kindly allowed me to stay with him for about 17 years just to impart music to me. I was treated just like his son and was mentored throughout period. I was completely away from my family relatives & the rest of the world. My only focus was my Guru, the music & the knowledge. I was so

much involve in my Guruji that I even forgot the nature’s law that every beginning has an end.

In 1998 Guruji passed away & I really felt that my main stream of my knowledge which taught, guided me has been lost suddenly. It has been year now since he passed away. What left behind were his memories two of which remained permanently carved in my mind.

Our purpose is to continue the laid down purpose, to expand his social work, to protect it & to expand his work. In the year of 2003 We have established Swaranjali, mainly to propagate classical music amongst the youth. Throughout the year this institution arranges concerts in memory of Legends of the musical world. In this institute we also recognize well-known artists. We arranges lecture demonstrations on various subjects which helps to spread knowledge & historical facts of the music world. The main objective of this institution is to provide assistance to Gurus & disciples who are striving hard to pursue & preserve the great tradition of Indian Classical music.

Guru of Indian Classical Music

What all we Teach

We teach all types of Classical Hindustani Music & light music

Hindustani music is based on the raga system. A raga is a melodic scale, consisting of notes from the basic seven known as sa, re, ga, ma pa, dha, and ni. Apart from sa and pa which are constant, the other notes may be in major or minor tone, and this gives rise to innumerable combinations.

Depending on the notes included in it, each raga acquires a distinct character. The form of the raga is also determined by the particular pattern of ascent and descent of the notes, which may not be strictly linear. Melody is built up by improvising and elaborating within the given scale.

"Last 10 years has been a journey of exploring myself with the medium of Hindusthani classical music. It is Guruji who showed me the path towards getting close to the Almighty through devotion to music. I am indebted to him for patiently guiding me all these years and being my musical mentor who enabled me to transform my own musical being."

"The facility of online music lessons has enabled me to continue learning Hindustani vocals despite living out of India. It has been a blessing to be a disciple of a renowned guru like Dr. Mohan Kumar Darekar. This medium has proved to be very efficient for anyone away from home and creates an atmosphere of learning from the guru in person."

"Learning music over Skype is amazing & relaxed way to learn. While being in your own surroundings. It is an ideal way to learn for those who do not have the flexibility to travel or are not located within the nearby area. I had completed professional experience despite of great distance! and I am blessed to have you as my guruji (Mohankumar Darekar), thanks guruji."

I am grateful that Guruji has taken 1-2 hours per week from his busy schedule to teach me vocal online music for the past 4 years. I hope to continue my education for the next several years and my goal is to perform at a full-length classical vocal concert by the year 2020! At this Guru Purnima 2014, I would like to thank Darekar guruji for everything he has done for me.

I have been doing an online music class with Darekar Guruji for quite a few years now. Learning online from Guruji is something that has helped me to continue my music education , even though I am outside India. Mohankumar Darekar Guruji with his patience is always encouraging and inspirational. It is my good luck that a vastly learned musician like him can spare time to teach me. Online music class with Sir has ensured that I stay in touch with music and also keep learning to the best of my ability.

It is my good karma that I have a Guruji like Shri Darekar. Living in the US, learning via skype is a unique and good experience. I have been learning Dhrupad Gayaki from Guruji for the past two years. He has taught me devotion to Parameshwar thru dhrupad singing. After every session, I have a feeling of bliss, having meditated and relaxed and in peace.
